FEATURE - Contemporary Courtyards
Our Bondi Junction Project
This has to be our all time favourite courtyard garden in Sydney and we hope you love it too. Adam Robinson Design was gifted the task of creating a beautiful family retreat for a design loving client which satisfies not just the client.
It was paramount in this garden to create a sophisticated palette that encapsulated inner city living for it’s owners and reflected their design aesthetic. The courtyard also had to reflect their love of open plan living and act as a retreat for a growing family.
Deep in the planning of this courtyard are the intentionally designed living spaces. Now, not everyone has such a generously sized courtyard but this is a key factor when planning the use of your space. Smaller spaces allow for one or two adjustable uses, whereas this larger courtyard enabled us to created multiple living zones which were adaptable and created real atmosphere.
The space is split up into an outdoor dinning area, which extends openly out from the inside lounge area. This area introduces a custom built bbq kitchen area to the side, a kids play area in the middle and an occasional seating area over from that.
Each zone has it’s own unique features which define each space. The use of pot clusters and accessories such as a moveable umbrella and bean bags, which can be attached to the wall when not in use, help define each separate zone.
The use of colour blocking, a muted colour theme and a beautiful polished, cement hardscape underfoot unites the zones together to compliment. A mix of contemporary and weathered textures and materials appear in each zone to finish off the courtyard.
The garden at the front of the house serves it’s own unique purpose as well. The use of plant colour and texture line the property to dress the house and provide light screening to separate the street from the home.
