Gardening Tips for Autumn

Let's Get Outside

One of the best things you can do for your garden and plants in Autumn is pruning. The reasons for pruning is firstly, to remove any unhealthy parts of your plants, this stimulates the plants to flower more and also produce fruit, and lastly to keep your plants looking abundant, healthy and attractive in shape rather than straggly and unkept.

When pruning always use sharp tools so you cut the plant neatly, if the cut is torn and bruised the plant won’t heal as quickly. Autumn is also a great time to plant Spring flowering bulbs such as Freesia, Daffodil, Tulips, Hyacinth, and Crocus and new trees and shrubs.

Falling Autumn leaves can be raked up and used as mulch and compost in garden beds. As the leaves rot they become nutrient rich and are very beneficial to garden soil.
