Living Finish
Botanicrete
Create your individual sanctuary and feel a connection to nature with this wonderful new ‘living wall finish’ – Botanicrete. This earthy render has a uniquely beautiful aesthetic that brings a sense of wellbeing and connection to a space. Made with botanical extracts, Botanicrete is naturally water-resistant and durable, allowing for the creation of living spaces that flow seamlessly from inside to outside. Another reason it’s called a ‘living finish’ is that the render continues to change as air and moisture move through the material creating tonal variations – think Wabi Sabi – the Japanese philosophy of embracing imperfection in all things, imbuing character and uniqueness to a space.
With a finish that is smooth as stone, this contemporary, tactile finish suits material-focused architecture and design projects.
CONNECT WITH NATURE
Botanical extracts from plants/trees give Botanicrete it’s naturally water-resistant properties, making suitable for both external and internal wall surfaces and eliminating the need for acrylic additives or fossil fuel-derived resins.
Inspired by ancient cultures throughout the world, Botanicrete is produced by sustainably harvesting bark (trees are not cut down) to extract natural resins that give Botanicrete unique properties.
RETURN TO CULTURE
For thousands of years, cultures across the globe have used natural resins from trees and plants for a variety of purposes, including weapon-making, medicine and to make waterproof mortars for storing water. Inspired by these learnings, and following years of research and travel, founder Karmin Kenny created Botanicrete – a first of its kind.
Botanicrete contains no plastics (no polymers, acrylics or resins derived from fossil fuels) and is not a film-forming (plastic or latex) material like many decorative wall finishes. Instead, Botanicrete harnesses the natural water-resistant properties of the botanical resins (think of water beading on a leaf) while retaining breathability. Due to its unique characteristics, unlike film -forming renders, when water sits on the surface, some of the moisture is absorbed into the surface – without compromising the material – creating beautiful, and ever-changing tonal variations and interacting with its environment.
Available in a range of nature-inspired colours created with mineral oxides, Botanicrete does not require painting. Instead, its unique living finish that will continue to develop and change over time without looking tired.
Made in Australia using Australian minerals, Botanicrete can be finished to a smooth finish. It is suitable over raw block walls (with our base coat) externally and over cement sheeting or plasterboard internally. Botanicrete is 100% natural, toxin-free, breathable and can be returned to the earth at end of life.
Botanicrete comes in dry powder form with liquid botanical extracts which is mixed with the powder to form a paste.
