Outdoor Textures Onto Interior Floors
Latest Axminster Design Collection
We just had to make note of this stunning range of carpets from TSAR Carpets, which to us here at ARD is an amazing way to take the textures of the outdoors onto interior floors in the most luxurious and beautiful way.
TSAR Carpets latest Axminster Design Collection, Sierra is an exploration in the woven process and natural textures inspired by mountainous terrains and desert landscapes.
First and foremost the Sierra Collection took motivation from Iceland’s historic and impressive female-led weaving industry and also the natural beauty of the country’s stark and craggy landscape. That investigation further spurred interest in bringing to life additional rugged and arid landscapes worldwide – from California’s Coachella Valley to the rugged cliffs of the Shire at Mornington Peninsula in Melbourne.
“The ultimate goal of the collection is to ground the end user, while providing a high-performing and luxuriously comfortable experience underfoot,” says Charlotte McGeehan, a trained weaver and TSAR’s in-house designer.
Incorporating 80% New Zealand wool – a durable material thanks to the fiber’s unparalleled diameter and strength – the collection is suitable for a wide variety of high-trafficked public spaces as well as residential environments. Specification, colours and scale can be fully customised to suit any project.
The Collection
Loam
A pattern based on a distorted honeycomb and woven technique, digitally overlaid with imagery of the cliff faces on the Mornington Peninsula. Featuring a heavy puckering and a textural appearance, the pattern is softened by use of neutral colours.
Parko
Based on a table loom weaving, the pattern incorporates hand-painted dye to create a faded appearance. The pattern is digitally enhanced with imagery of rocks from the designer’s travels.
Terra
Based on the “crazy paver” stone hard surfacing style commonly seen on the exterior of pool enclosures in Palm Springs, this pattern features digitally overlaid woven textures and evokes a sense of earthy richness.
Remnant
Inspired by the tiles found in Sorrento, Italy — contrasted by the region’s rugged and breathtaking seaside cliffs and raw minerals — Remnant recreates a verdant landscape that is translated into a mesmerizing flooring design.
Weathered
A hand-rendered painting featuring sweeping brush strokes translated into a Jacquard woven fabric. The design uses tonal colours to create texture and movement that is reminiscent of a glacial surface.
