Hoya Australis

The Waxvine

Hoya australis is more commonly known as the waxvine or common waxflower, and is one of the species in the genus Hoya.

This is a lovely Australian native plant that is found on the edges of rainforest and rocky areas. It is easy to grow and is cold-tolerant, although it does prefer to be protected from frost. It produces pretty white and waxy fragrant blooms. These fragrant flowers are especially heady in the evenings or at night, making them a popular indoor plant as a natural air freshener.

The leaves are flesh and succulent with a rounded shape. They need well-drained soil and will tolerate a few weeks of drought conditions. They also require very little pruning, although older plants would benefit with cutting back to rejuvenate the vine.
